Post Body

Requisite long-post TL;DR: beer at pretty place, so go

Taking my post on this last year and updating it a bit for this year. There's a huge garden in Ball Ground, GA called Gibbs Gardens (~250-300 acres, for comparison Atlanta Botanical Garden is 30ish), and they're having their second, now-annual beerfest this weekend on Saturday.

I'm not sure the specific beers per brewery – likely staples but can't be sure – but can say there are more breweries than last year, some new breweries compared to last year, and there are VIP tickets available too that get early entry at 11, chef-prepped buffet lunch, and some more beers others don't (of 300, about 75 VIP are left as of me getting my ticket Monday):

  • Beer: Arches, Atlanta Brewing, Beacon Brewing, Burnt Hickory, Cartecay River Brewing, Catawba, Creature Comforts, Eventide, Firewater, Gate City, Grumpy Old Men, Hutton & Smith, Lagunitas, New Holland, Orpheus, Pretoria Fields, Scofflaw, Second Self, Service, Sierra Nevada, Southbound, Southern Brewing Co, Terrapin, Three Taverns
  • Cider/Mead: Blake's Hard Cider
  • Wine: Available by the glass
  • No tokens or anything, this is an "as much as you want within reason" kind of event.

Usual extras as well – a band (Loose Shoes Band, they're pretty good), food trucks (Angelfire7 BBQ, SunShine Alchemy, Knotty Pretzels, Hops Nuts, and the garden's own cafe), vendors (dog stuff, nature stuff, outdoorsy places, olive oil/soap/honey, maybe more?).

Tickets are up a little this year, $45 if you happen to be a member already, $55 at the gate day of – for non-members they're $55 now, $65 at the gate. Online ticketing closes Friday at midnight, Saturday you can only get them at the gate. Consider this includes garden admission, which is $20 alone normally and can easily kill some hours wandering around even without beer, so it's really pretty cheap all considered compared to "hey pay to get into this place that's free anyway"-type events, ha.

Garden is also super pretty, colors are starting to change a little bit, waterlilies/wildflowers/japanese maples are the stars now, good for dates, you can buy some of their flowers to take home usually, all that!

My mom works here, say hey, ha.

Link to the event page, you can click around on the site for garden pics, it's nice – why drink in your house when you could drink here

Edit – BONUS SHAMELESS SHILL PRO TIP – If you go and think "huh this is pretty, maybe we'll come back", they'll let you apply the value of your ticket (that day, not counting beer, so $20) to the $50 season pass, making it $30. Go twice more between now and next October – birthdays, Mother's Day, whenever – boom, you effectively saved money. Each annual member gets a free pass for a friend – so two of you, you get two, etc etc.
