Tell me if this sounds familiar…it’s the weekend, dinner is over and the kids are off doing whatever they do. Maybe you’re half watching a movie on the couch or you’re on the 5th episode of whatever Guy Fieri show the Food Network is relentlessly pumping out at the moment. You’re on one couch and he’s on the other. It’s 10 feet from here to there but it’s also a million miles. It’s 70 degrees in the house but there’s a chill in that in between space that feels so much colder. Both of you are buried in whatever distraction you’ve agreed on for the night to replace the conversations that you’re just too tired to have anymore. You’re “watching tv together” but you might as well be in different time zones. Your life is too comfortable to change but most days there’s an ache inside that’s so deep you’re not sure if you can take it for another minute. Of course you do, because it’s not the kids fault, it’s not your fault, maybe it’s not even really his fault…it’s just the thing that happens in life. It’s a million little choices that led you to the place. You drifted away an inch at a time and then one day you looked up and realized that you can’t see the beach anymore. So you just keep drifting. The sex dried up a long time ago. Maybe you still give it a go once or twice a month but both of you know that it’s just going through the motions. There’s no heat…no spark. It’s bland and boring. You want spice and passion and maybe even some danger but that seems impossible these days. You smile politely as you make eye contact across the room but you already know how the night is going to end. Back to back…reverse spoons in a king size bed…just like always.

How’d I do? Sound familiar? If so maybe we should talk. I have a notion that it doesn’t have to be this way. Let’s compare notes and see if we can figure this shit out. I want to know all about you.
