The church is in a wealthy part of town, and looking at the exterior and interior, and all the money spent on making it beautiful "for god" I'm sure. Marble pillars, 16ft oak doors... just excessive. Money that could have gone to a community in need, and served something good, instead of just vanity.
But the ceremony was just a church mass, praise be to god, worship him, blah blah blah, stand sit stand sit kneel stand sit. With a only few minutes at the beginning and end to mention the man we were there to mourn.
It was like "today we say farewell to this man, and since you sheeple are here, we'll shove some more holy savior down your throats!"
I went to show support to his family. I sat quietly. I went through the stand-sit motions. I rolled my eyes silently while they preached "body of christ/blood of christ"
I did NOT go to attend a church sermon. I worry now that anyone else I know who passes away, who's family holds their funeral at a catholic church, that I will refuse to attend just to avoid another event like this one.
