I'm curious how a person with a mental disorder, where they hear voices in their head, or see things that aren't there, might react differently if they didn't believe in a god. You sometimes hear about people with schizophrenia who do violent things because they think someone has daemons, or they think god is talking to them. Would an atheist be less likely to act on those voices, knowing that it's fake, or would they be imagining more believable scenarios to act on instead of god? Also, I'm curious about if atheism might have a different affect on depression, or other mental disorders. Are there any scientific studies done on this, is there a book that covers this, or anyone have a personal account they'd like to share? I've been searching around about it just out of curiosity, but haven't had much luck finding anything.
