TL;DR Mormons are really, really nice and that's my weakness. Talking points?
My husband and I just purchased a home. By just purchased, I mean a few months ago. Not really important, but we are new to the neighborhood. Recently, two Elders have started going to door to door chatting people up.
We'd encountered them once before, at the end of February, and they wanted to chat but we -really- didn't have the time, and the exchange went exactly like this:
Elder A: Hi!
Us: Hi!
Elder B: Have you heard of the Book of Mormon?
Me: blurts out It's a GREAT musical!
cue awkward silence
Fast forward to today. I'm organizing my garage, hubbie is on second shift and I've got the door open because the weather is not terrible for once. (We are in that lucky area of the US that hasn't been seeing 70 temperatures). I'm plugging along, even cleaning out my car and who should appear but the two, very fresh faced, Mormon Elders.
They were extremely nice, I was extremely nice, they even offered to help me lift heavy boxes, which I -totally- would have taken them up on since I'm pregnant, I just didn't have any heavy boxes to lift. We chat for a little bit, just pleasantries. I let slip that I'm job searching, they give me a name of one of their ladies who assists with resumes and job searches and stuff, I accept graciously.
Suddenly they're asking if they can set up a time to come back to talk with me and my husband. And they're coming back on Tuesday morning because I really hate being mean in person and turning them down.
So my conundrum/tentative plan is this:
Bake cookies because I'm a nice hostess
Enlist /r/atheism for assistance on what to talk about or discussion points and counter examples
I really don't want to be arrogant, but I do plan on telling them up front that I don't believe in any god. My husband will definitely be on the ball for this one, it's like a game for him, but I need a plan. He can fly easily by the seat of his pants, I am not one for spontaneity.
