We were eating breakfast and somehow started talking about genetics when I mentioned genetically modifying organisms. Eventually I said perhaps in the future we’ll Genetically modify human beings to make them stronger and smarter etc. Then they said how it wouldn’t be a human because it wouldn’t have a ‘soul’ and that “god breathed the breath of life, so it wouldn’t be a real human. It’d be something else” Then my Dad said something very interesting. He said “if we were to clone or genetically modify humans I wouldn’t believe it until I saw it with my own two eyes no matter how many people try to convince me it’s real”. Yet he believes in god? That was interesting. The conversation moved on to technology and they said that the “end times are coming” because AI will take over our lives and we’ll have no freedom just like “the Bible says”. There was a lot more but I was really upset and confused that Religion has to be brought into EVERY DEBATE OR CONVERSATION.
