The logic here is pretty simple. The cult of Christianity (and other religions) exploited the fear of death by offering a fictional alternative (IF you play by all their rules and demands). Thereby becoming incredibly powerful and simultaneously cheating you of making the most of the only brief existence you get.
But it’s far worse than that. Starting with the burning of the Library of Alexandria, with its vast wealth of early scientific progress, and continuing its repression for over a dozen centuries, Christianity actively and deliberately persecuted and stifled anything that contradicted its dogma - all to cling the the power that the church enjoyed so much - an entire millennium of progress lost.
If not for them not only would we have colonised a multitude of other star systems by now, but we certainly also would have easily cracked a process for quick mapping of neurons and synapses of the brain and transferring that vast data onto a digital platform, allowing the mind to effectively be uploaded to a digital ‘Heaven’.
I believe in a thousand years from now this will be looked back on as the greatest act of irony in the entire history of our species. Those existing in the digital afterlife will always feel sad for the billions who were robbed of the reality of eternity by those who exploited the promise of it.
This single fact is why I actively hate theists instead of just ignoring them.
