I primarily refer to the 40 days of "giving something up" aspect.
Personally, I always thought it was dumb and when I grew old enough to realize that I can make my own decisions and that why should I deprive myself of something that I enjoy?
I can almost see an argument for it though, but not in any religious reason or context. There are a lot of things that we might enjoy but there are things that might not be healthy for us. So, giving something up for 40 days might be a start, but if you realize that something might be a detriment to your life in some way, go beyond that 40 days, keep going. Like say, cutting back on junk food. Or smoking or drinking.
No, I donโt miss it at all. Itโs just another guilt based action masked as discipline.
