Nearly a year ago, I asked this subreddit why there wasn’t a rave scene in Astoria. So many of us wanted a real place in the neighborhood to dance and listen to electronic music.
Flash forward to today, we are beginning this summer season with a new dance scene forming right here in Astoria, in part because of this subreddit. It became a place for DJs to meet, events to be shared, new club night announcements, open decks updates and more.
It is without a doubt that a house music scene has grown in Astoria. We have our own vibe and our own culture. It’s different than Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our scene started in an Irish Pub, the Shillelagh Tavern, and grew with a small business called Medusa Arts Center, all right here in Astoria.
We went from having nobody at our shows, to having a packed room at every rave. We have even outgrown some of these spaces and are figuring out a way to incorporate them in a safe manner as more people come to visit Astoria for a club night.
But for now, let’s celebrate. In keeping with our Astoria roots, we wanted to throw our biggest rave yet at a place that is historic for the neighborhood.
This Saturday at Bohemian Beer Garden, come find yourself at the rave. We are transforming the back gymnasium of the establishment into a dark club for the night.
The building dates back to 1910. They were drinking beer and dancing around that time. We will be doing the same. This time, with more lights, lasers, and banging beats to keep us all dancing.
Of course, if you have any ideas for this scene, please let us know in the comments. We have gained some incredible ideas through those, including the idea of throwing a rave at Bohemian.
One more thing, these events have all been no cover including this one. But real talk, our RSVP list has over 400 people coming, and it keeps growing. We are overwhelmed and doing our best to keep up with the demand. We are going to try and accommodate everyone, but it’s first come, first serve, so come early and let’s party.
There is a rave scene here in Astoria, and many of you on this subreddit started it with us. I can’t thank you enough.
I hope you’ll join us this Saturday at the rave. 🔥
