I'm a huge audio drama/adventure fan.
I think playing with the format by having a blind assassin was a fun idea and really made this whole thing feel like a unique story within this universe, even if in structure it's probably the most predictable and by the numbers AC plot I've seen in a while.
I like Omar Khaled especially as someone who is blind I could really empathize with the character when his disability is brought up, even if those moments don't amount to much beyond just pointing out that he's blind. Using eagle sense as an aid was fun and the drama really goes into how it feels to use which gives it more flavour beyond BAD GUY GLOW RED.
I'm a sucker for a realistic romance sublot that doesn't feel forced and it certainly checked those boxes for me. The end felt like audience manipulation but I see what they were trying to do and I can live with that.
I didn't know Anthony Head was in it which shook me for about an hour realizing he was going to be a main character.
The Shaun cameo was also unexpected but a fun surprise, expected more from it but happy it was there.
The modern day story line was the hardest bit to get through...
I don't think Aliyah Khan is a bad character but she certainly isn't someone I'd enjoy meeting in real life. They dive deep into her backstory growing up which while not inherently bad really struggled to have purpose beyond forcing you to understand the position she's in now and why she is the way she is but...... some of the stuff brought up was really problematic behavior that one might call manipulative and narcissistic. Don't mean to rag on her so much but some of those scenes really rubbed me the wrong way and them not really addressing the narcissistic behavior just feels weird. Her ending kind of addresses her change in perspective but that doesn't really do much for how I saw her 5 seconds ago.
The overarching plot connecting both time periods was also bad. They tried making fun of how nonsensical it sounded but when it's all finally revealed it felt pretty pointless.
Overall
Pros:
A few solid characters I'd love to see again.
The production quality while not consistent didn't ruin the experience and was pretty high for what it was.
The world building was well handled and while not always well thought-out did leave me satisfied.
The depiction of racism and views towards disability were well handled.
Cons:
Could've done without 70% of the modern day plot.
Some action set pieces could've been handled better with more descriptions or clearer set ups and more obvious payoffs.
I had a good time and while not in my top 4 AC narratives did leave me with plenty of things to think about and characters I'd love to see referenced or followed up on.
