Masking my natural tone of voice

Post Body

Over the past couple days I’ve been staying at my parents house while my sister is in town so I can spend time with her. For context, I’ve been out of my parents house for over two years now. After the first day of staying at the house, I noticed (for the first time thanks to you wonderful lot here at aspergirls) that I’m modulating my voice to a much higher pitch than what is natural and comfortable to me (I naturally have a decently lower register). As a result, my throat has been sore for the last couple of days.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve struggled with laryngitis on and off for years while living at my parents house but it hasn’t been a problem since I’ve been out of the house (and also since I’ve stopped working in an office) and I wonder if masking my natural voice is one of the culprits?!
