Anyone else take things too literally?

Like my mum just said to me: 'it smells like something has died in your room.' And I went 'yea actually... There was a mouse under the floorboards the other day,' completely missing the point she was trying to make.

Mind you I have drank a pint and a half of beer tonight, but it's shocking how my brain jumps to conclusions without thinking first. I'm the most gullible person I know.
