Social norms: Babies
Post Body

And another "is it just me" post :) Babies & social norms.

Looking through prior posts, seems like aspies either love or hate kids. For me, I don't mind kids age 2 , I just hate the freaking social norms. List of the norms (feel free to add the ones I missed!): - Rule 1: "You shall congratulate the baby's mother and grandmother." What? Why? What am I congratulating? - Rule 2: "You shall ask what the baby's name is." What if I'm going to forget the baby's name by the time I visit? - Rule 3: "You shall confirm the baby's name is good." Yikes, so now we're getting into the social norm of lying. What if the name is terrible? Follow up with advice that they better start teaching them jiu jitsu at a young age because they're definitely going to get bullied with that name? - Rule 4: "Gifts and more gifts." You all make more money than I do. You're both doctors for Christ sake. Do you have gambling debts or something? Is this related to rule 1 above? Congrats for having a baby even though you're deep in debt, and that's why you need $20-$50 for a crib?

Oy, not sure if this post is an aspy thing, family trauma thing, or just purely personal thing.

Edit: Interesting takes, seems to be a personal/family trauma thing than an aspy thing. Thanks everyone that chimed in!
