Do you ever feel like you are like a leading indicator of future trends?

I don't know if it is just being contrarian, but over the past 5-10 years I feel like I would adopt something, (say programming, but that is kind of simple) or travel or something else (maybe investing would be a better example), and then a few years alter everyone is doing that. Another example is the city I moved to. Part of it I think is that the range of things to do has shrunk in the past few years, but it seems like whatever I do gets caught on to. I am trying to get below low hanging fruit, but it is hard.
