After many recomendations from me, my dad finaly started the series. His english is more then decent and he is able to understant most if not all of what is said.
He is currently reading AGOT and just got to the chapter where Ned gets attacked by Jamie in the streats of Kings Landing.
His favorite character is Jon, fallowed closely by Arya
Of course I do not spoil anything for him. I give character information if he asks for it specificly but even then I dont go beyond what is said up to the point which he read. I did ask him for theories though.
He thinks it was Robert who poisoned Jon Arryn, because he was searching for his bastards. That amused me. I asked him why he though so but did not say anything.
He thinks Drogo will cross the Narrow sea and invade westaros, and that Stannis will support him. I like to see him wait for it. Maybe one day he'll get his wish xD
He believes Littlefinger to be a good guy because he is helping Ned, though that is to be expected since he knows nought of the bigger game LF is playing.
For some reason he vividly remembers the description of Illyrio Moppatis and immidiatly immidiatly recognized him in the dungeons of the Red keep. He has no idea who the other person is though. I pointed out how the man was said to be walking without making any sound and asked him if that was mentioned for any other character but he didn't figure it out so I stood silent.
He claims he will stop reading after the first book but I'll ask him again after the birth of Dany's dragons and the "King in the North!!!"
EDIT: Someone at work told him that Jon and Arya are going to marry, I didn't want to tell him anything but it's hilarious. He decided he wont be telling anyone what he's reading anymore.
