Okay hear me out. I’ve been listening to ASMR for about 8 years now, but I just can never openly admit that I watch it. I hide it like it’s a drug addiction, and I think that I’ll be judged if I mention it to anyone. The only times I have mentioned it I got super weird looks or side eyes from my friends when I explained what it was (didn’t even say I watched it myself). Not that you should care what other people think, but it’s just so sad that people think ASMR is weird or creepy. So this just has me feeling self conscious about the fact that I enjoy listening to it.
Funnily enough, I recently made my own ASMR channel and started making content to overcome this embarrassing feeling but it’s still there ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ I just hit 200 subscribers and I want to tell my friends and family but I literally cannot bring myself to do it. I’m just celebrating alone lol
Is listening to (or making) ASMR embarrassing? How can you explain ASMR to people who don’t know what it is?
I'm not embarrassed that I like ASMR because it helps me when I need it. But, there are some ASMRists that I won't recommend because many people wouldn't like some of the content. A lot of people don't like the Mukbang stuff because they don't like the sounds of eating.
I only recommend some more thought provoking ones like EmphermalRift and even then, he can be pretty out there when it comes to ASMR. I guess it really depends on the type of content the creator makes.
