Hi there! So I’m studying to become a sign language interpreter for Swedish sign language but if felt kinda awkward to ask my teachers about this so I wanted to post on here first to see if it’s unthinkable I have quite a short name Amy. But it’s kinda awkward to spell and difficult for a lot of deaf people as it’s not a Swedish name. So my sign name became A.Y as it flowed better. And I didn’t mind so I took it.

I’m a dancer and dance teacher. I have a lot to do with preparing competition dances and such so my classmates and teacher see me dancing at almost every recess. One of my teachers one day said jokingly “your sign name should be “dance” instead because you always dance”. Since then I’ve kinda grown really fond of that idea.

Do you think it would be okay if I asked him if I can change to that? I haven’t dared to ask if I’m being honest
