During one of our last family gatherings, my nieces excitedly stole me away to the other end of the house, begging me to "play Charades" with them.
I am really just a beginner (almost but not quite intermediate) level ASL learner, and the oldest niece learned how to finger spell in school. No one else in the whole extended family knows anything about ASL. This is the first time I had been invited to play this game since I began learning ASL, and I didn't know if I would have an unfair advantage or if participating would be disrespectful/appropriative somehow.
It turned out I didn't have to immediately swim any morally grey waters because when the oldest niece started drawing lines on her chalkboard, I realized she mixed up the names of "Charades" and "Hangman", but the question still remained on my mind. What do you all think?
