What do I do if my finger dislocates while signing?

Post Body

I'm hearing and trying to learn ASL because my mom is hard of hearing. Her hearing just keeps getting worse and I see her struggle so much trying to lip read and understand people. Often people have to repeat what they say to her at least 5 times. She doesn't like her hearing aids because they're uncomfortable, so I thought ASL would be a good alternative communication method.

The thing is that my finger keeps dislocating while I'm signing certain things. Especially anything with the letter i or the letter j. It's not a big deal, I can just pop it back in quick before continuing to sign, but I'm worried about it making it more difficult to understand what I'm signing. If I pop my finger back in place are people going to think that I'm trying to sign something else? I guess it wouldn't matter if I'm mostly signing with my mom, but if I were to use ASL with a stranger than I want to make sure I'm doing it right. I was having trouble finding resources online about this topic.

Currently I've been using an app to learn ASL, but I know it'll only get me so far. I'm unsure of how to properly learn and I figure YouTube and the app is better than nothing at all for now. It hurts my joints if I try to sign faster, so I'll probably always be slow at it. I just want to help my mom. Even if ASL hurts my joints it's the least I can do for my mom, because she's done so much for me my whole life. I'm new to ASL and I just want to learn.
