My gf and I (I'm a guy) have been dating a year and a half and have known each other for 5. When I met her there was a spark in me and I kinda new I wanted to be with her for life. She's had two boyfriends between us meeting and dating, but we became best friends. She's an amazing and caring person, always looking out for me and making sure I'm taken care of and doing special things for me
The problem is is that I felt alone in my childhood, so I'm used to just doing me and making sure I'm taken care of. This is clearly an issue as she feels neglected as I'm not used to thinking of and caring for another person.
We've been fighting a lot recently and apparently she's been unhappy for the past 8months, but this is the first I've heard of this. Our arguments are usually from me being lazy and kinda doing the minimum and she feels like I don't care enough about her as a result. I get it because I say I'm going to change and work on it, but, embarrassingly, this is about the 7th time this specific point has come up. She feels unappreciated and neglected and like I'm not present in our relationship. She's now threatening to leave if I don't shape up as she's looking for a husband and feels like I'm not suitable material anymore
If it matters, I gave up going to the peace corps to move down to Florida for her and have been working in a job I kinda don't like and got rejected from grad school this past year. I feel like I'm stuck in life and our relationship is suffering.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I was wondering if any of you had advice for me as to what to do. I'm confused as to what I want and feel like she's rushing life since I have just wanted to take it as it comes, but she's had a timetable planned since she was a little girl
