Hello, my name is Brenna and I’m a trans woman who’s also a journalism student. I’m working on a story about my school not allowing preferred names on diplomas (University of Texas if you’re wondering) for class. I need to interview a trans person so I have quotes about how important not using your dead name on a diploma is or how it can affect you mentally if it is. Of course I know that it’s awful and we know that it’s awful but it’s not journalistically professional to draw from personal experience like that.
So I ask the transgender community of reddit for help on this one, if you’d be willing to give a written response then please feel free to respond in the comments or by dming me. Help a girl with her last story before graduation!
Prompt: “Why does or would it matter if you were graduating and your deadname showed up on your diploma?”
Much love!
(If this is against the rules mods feel free to take it down it’s not a survey or questionnaire for statistics purposes I just need a quote for the story)
So like, y'all delivered holy guacamole I have to close this because too many people responded. To the people who volunteered their voices, thank you!
