How to apologize when you are accidentally transphobic?
Post Body

Hello. I was hoping to receive some advice.

Earlier, I accidentally offended a dear friend of mine by making a distinction between women and mtf.
The context is that she was asking for my opinion for some clothes she was planning to buy. As a result, she was jokingly calling me gay for giving her detailed answers. In an attempt to refute that, I replied that I have only slept with women and mtf, which was a big mistake.

I'm actually ashamed I didn't immediately realize what I had said was wrong and hurtful. She informed me right afterwards and I apologized afterwards upon understanding what I had said. I then clarified I do see her as a woman. And I genuinely do. I reassure her that she's beautiful a few times every week.

I also throughly support her to the best I can. I actually pay for her estrogen and spiro these days since her new supplier is in New Zealand and apparently doesn't like UK debit cards and I've paid for a lot of things for her. It's a bit of a messy relationship.

Still, the fact remains that I was accidentally transphobic which caused her to end our conversation early and go to bed (she's about 8 hours ahead of me since I live on the West Coast whereas she lives in the UK).

I was reading though this this particular topic and am hoping I didn't make it all about me in my apology. All I do know is that I've genuinely hurt her and I don't know to make things up to her. Going overboard on the apology would make it sound insincere, right?

Sorry for the incoherent ramble. Let me try to sum it up.

tl;dr - was accidentally transphobic by making a distinction between women and mtf. I've already apologized after she pointed this out to me, but what else can I do? Or should I do anything else?
