When one makes the transition, do you think of it as being a "New you" or an "Old you"?

Okay, I need to make this clear. Yes, I am very aware that Deadnaming is a seriously triggering thing and you should not do that. I am asking when someone makes the transition from one gender to another. Do they refer to it as being a new version of themselves, or the same person they were before, just with them switching genders?
