Megathread: Traveling to and from Switzerland during a pandemic - September Edition

Post Body

** New travel rules**:

From Saturday, 22 January, persons who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from COVID-19 will no longer be required to present a negative PCR or rapid antigen test before entering Switzerland. Persons who are not vaccinated or who have not recovered from COVID-19 will still have to take the tests to enter the country. However, due to limited testing capacity, travellers will no longer be required to take follow-up tests four to seven days after arriving, meaning that the '3G' rule applies to enter Switzerland. The Passenger Locator Form (PLF) will only have to be completed by those travelling to Switzerland by plane or on a long-distance bus service.

Request Swiss vaccination certificate: Unified online form to request a Swiss certificate available at https://covidcertificate-form.admin.ch/foreign

Hi there! As this question is bound to come up, please read this post before opening a question about covid-related travel rules.

The federation has an online travelcheck that should answer your questions regarding whether you can travel, whether you need a test, and whether you'll have to quarantine: https://einreisecheck.admin.ch/home

For questions regarding entering Switzerland, see the SEM FAQ.

For questions about sanitary measures at the border such as quarantine, check out the FOPH page

For some general FAQ about entry, see this old thread. Consider the new rules for unvaccinated travelers.

You need a Covid Certificate to do anything fun indoors - see here - which means you are either vaccinated, recovered or tested negative. Vaccinated residents of EU states should get one from their home country.

Swiss citizens and immigrants vaccinated abroad may also get a certificate for vaccines not accepted in the EU.

Obtaining a Covid certificate for those vaccinated abroad

If you fulfill the criteria, apply for a certificate at https://covidcertificate-form.admin.ch/foreign. You need to be either recovered from Covid or fully vaccinated with with one of the following vaccines: Comirnaty (Pfizer/Moderna), Spikevax (Moderna), COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Vaxzevria/Covishield (AstraZeneca).

According to earlier news, tourists vaccinated with Sinopharm BIBP or Sinovac (i.e. one accepted by the WHO, but not the EU) can apply for a certificate only valid within Switzerland for 30 days (but not within the EU)

IMPORTANT FOR NON-VACCINATED NON-CITIZENS: The list of countries whose non-European residents may travel for tourism to Switzerland has once again shrunk. US residents without vaccination may no longer enter Switzerland, for example. Always perform the travelcheck linked above before traveling.
