Why do I have to make a retroactive premium payment to my selected health insurance provider?

Post Body

Hi,

After months of living in a temporary apartment, I have finally chosen to settle in a small town in the canton of Zurich.

I also subscribed to a health insurance policy at the same time of my registration in this town.

Now, I received an invoice from the health insurance company asking me to pay premium for the previous months since my arrival in Switzerland, but for which I didn’t avail of the service just yet.

I quite don’t understand why I have to pay for the months when I am not yet subscribed to that health insurance company. And, if this is the case, should I just cancel the insurance?
