Advice Needed for Planning a 3-Month Trip to Asia!
Post Body

Hi all,

Me and my GF are 31 and sooner or later we'd like to have kids. Since such event is game changing, we'd like to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime 3( )-month trip to Japan/Southest Asia in around 1.5 years. I’ve never taken such an extended trip before, so I'm looking for insights and suggestions on how to plan the trip. In particular, in the following topics:

  1. Employer: I’m currently employed full-time. What’s the best approach to discussing this with my employer? Should I request a leave of absence, or consider quitting my job and looking for a new one when I return? How have others handled this situation, and what was your experience?
  2. Rent/Apartment: I live in an apartment close to Zurich. Should I sublet my place, or is there a better way to manage this? For those who have sublet, what are the key things I should consider to ensure everything goes smoothly?
  3. Unemployment: If I decide to leave my job, what should I know about handling -if necessary, I'd rather not- unemployment upon my return? Are there any preparations I should make before leaving to ensure a smoother transition when I get back? (Should I inform RAV of that before, during, or when I came back from my trip?). Ideally we'd like to use our savings until we get a job, but if it'd take several months, we would need a plan B..
  4. General Tips: Any additional tips for planning a trip of this length? Things you wish you had known before embarking on a similar adventure?

I'd like to make sure I cover all my bases so I can enjoy it without too much stress. Thanks in advance for your help!

Safe travels everyone! :)
