GA Travelcard vs. Taxes

Post Body

Hi all. I’ll be moving to Vaud and commuting daily to Geneva for work. My employer only provides an optional Half Fare Card as benefit or a deduction of the HF fare on a GA subscription, where I would have to pay the rest.

I did some research and saw that exists a Modul-Abo, which would cost me around 269CHF point-to-point, which I didn’t find attractive (with the HF I could theoretically pay 220 point-to-point per month). After this research, 355CHF for a GA sounds more attractive to me. Questions:

  1. How does it work the tax declaration (this case I believe for Canton Vaud, since it would be my residence, even though I would work in Geneva) for a GA abo? Would be possible to reclaim some of the paid amount back up to a cap for work related trips (daily commute), if so how does it works?

  2. I found some old comments of people saying to not accept the offer of an employer to deduct the HF amount from the GA abo and pay the rest myself, because this would make impossible to add the GA to the tax declaration under work related expenses, is that correct? If so then is better that I pay GA in full and add to the tax declaration?

  3. HF, GA and Modul-abo. Are those the only 3 options for a subscription of commuting between Nyon and Geneva or am I missing something?

Thank you all!
