US Spouse of EU Citizen - Permit/ Visa Question

Post Body

Hi there- I hope to speak with an immigration lawyer soon but still curious if someone has gone through the same situation.

My partner (German Citizen) is starting a job in Zurich on September 1st. He should get B-Permit when he arrives and shows the canton a few documents. The HR department at his work seems to think I (American) will be able to immigrate first ad a tourist and then simply need to prove marriage and apply for Family reunification before the 90 tourist visa is complete.

I have read somewhere that it could be necessary to first apply for a national D-Visa at our local embassy (depending on nationality and canton). This would take time and prevent us from being able to move there together on September 1st and rush our marriage :)

Any one have experience if it is a two step or one step process for Americans doing family reunification to European citizens to Switzerland?

Thanks!!
