As far as I understand, beet juice rock salt mixtures are more environmentally friendly than just using rock salt to melt snow/ice. It also seems that beet juice isn't really effective at melting the snow/ice without the addition of some salt.
If all of our current use of just rock salt was replaced by beet juice rock salt, I'm wondering what the net environmental impact would be. I imagine the salinity increase in local waterways would be lower, but couldn't there be issues with increased... sugar levels? Or something?
