Okay, so I know that some groups have made ZnO nanotubes using screw dislocations as a catalyst during vapor phase epitaxy. In this case the tubes grew only out of the dislocations and retained the pitch/periodicity of the dislocation.
As far as I know, one group at least has been able to epitaxially grow graphene multilayers on top of both atomically flat graphite and SiC.
So my question is essentially this: Is there any real reason why one would not be able to use screw dislocations to catalyze carbon nanotube growth?
