Is there negative gravity?

Whenever I think of mass warping space to produce gravity, I think of this image: http://www.cosmotography.com/images/black_hole/images/fabric_of_space_warp.jpg as has been basically drilled into me by modern pop science.

I don't think it's a particularly bad way of viewing mass and its effect on time space, since I realize that space is three dimensions, not two, and try to mentally adjust for that extra dimension.

I've been wondering lately though what would happen to space if a star or planet, like in the above photo, just suddenly vanished. Would it cause space to "ripple" before returning to its un-warped state? If it did "ripple" or create waves in space, would that be measurable as "negative" gravity?
