Any ideas of affordable hotel/hostel/motel in San Diego, about 30 mins from the airport? Never been to the U.S before

Will be in San Diego on October 26 around 2 pm. My flight isn't until 8am October 27 so I'm thinking about staying somewhere affordable for the night. Could probably waste some time around the airport but I'd rather go somewhere I can sleep for a bit.
Some the hotels I've seen were really pricey. I'm thinking maybe a hostel might be a good idea? Any suggestions are very much welcome.
