Is there any theory like polyvagal out there that is scientifically accurate?

I’ve been reading about PVT these last few days. From my understanding, the concepts are mostly sound regarding how activation and deactivation might affect the body and social engagement. However, the actual science is wrong. Are there any existing theories out there with accurate science that therapists could offer to clients to help educate? Considering all of the controversy, it seems like PVT should be replaced or at least renamed.
