I apologize in advance if this post comes off as insensitive or offends anyone.
My parents are visiting and asking for hotel recommendations. I've never stayed in any hotels in Portland so I have no idea what's good and what isn't.
They are your typical, well-to-do, catholic, conservative suburbanites. They've never been to Portland but are avid Fox news viewers, so you can guess what their impression of the place is. As upper-middle-class folks living in the suburbs, they also don't understand poverty and homelessness. They are the types who worry that anyone looking a bit rough around the edges is going to stab or rob them.
I'm hoping to teach them some empathy and expand their world view a bit during their first visit here, but in the meantime, despite their poor attitudes, I do love them and want to be somewhere that will make them comfortable (read: won't bump into a tent camp immediately upon exiting their hotel). They have money to spend so they'd like to be somewhere nice.
If anyone has any leads or recommendations, they'd be greatly appreciated! Thank you for the help.
