Driving to Mt Hood in a rental SUV?

Post Body

My in-laws are coming to visit us around Christmas time and we are driving to Sisters to spend a few days. They want us all to ride together and are renting a big Yukon SUV with AWD.

I know you can’t put on snow chains on a rental car…is the law that you have to carry chains with you in snowy conditions? Even with a AWD vehicle?

We are also happy to not drive the Mt Hood route and just drive I-5 down south, but we would still have to drive through snowy conditions in the Mt Jefferson area.

So then, is it simply not legal to drive a rental car through snowy conditions then to Sisters?
