Is this problem with the sound specific to certain venues here in Portland or is it pervasive in the industry?
Post Body

Went to a show recently at the Wonder Ballroom. I found that it was hard to hear the lyrics because the drums were overpowering the lead singer so badly. This seems like a constant problem. Is it a problem with my hearing? Like is this a thing that happens when you are starting to lose your hearing or something? In this case the lead singer was a man so maybe it's a question of competing octaves?

The last time I saw this singer it was at Mississippi Studios and the audio was great. But when I go to the crystal or the Wonder, it seems like the drums and the lead singer compete too much.

Could it be a function of where I'm standing in the venue?

Is this just bad audio mixing? It's hard to believe that somebody would be that bad at such a basic thing that an amateur like me can notice it.

Maybe it's just a bad sound system? But again, my ears just aren't that great and if I can notice it, it seems like anybody with some professional experience here would too.
