Good places to go for one night of backpacking/camping?

My 18 yr old son and I want to hike somewhere scenic and camp for one night. Neither of us are terribly experienced, but we are both in good shape and want a long hike. As his mom, I want to make sure we don’t get ourselves into trouble (get lost or go somewhere unsafe). Does anyone have any recommendations for where we could go?
