Best part of Arbor Lodge for a nighttime cycle commuter?

Post Body

Hi folks!

Iā€™m trying to seriously reduce the amount of time I spend in my car. I recently got a Class 3 e-bike (pedal only, no throttle!) to help facilitate this. I drive a semi for a company on the west end of St Johns, but all my friends live in inner NE. Thus, Arbor Lodge!

Currently live in downtown Vantucky, have previously lived on Fessenden in St Johns. My job frequently takes me to high traffic and ā€œsketchierā€ parts of town (and Iā€™ve been to genuinely sketchy parts of the country) so my tolerance for shifty is pretty high. All of the units that meet my needs in St Johns proper are operated by the worst of the worst property management companies so those are out.

Iā€™ve been chased a couple times recently on my bike in the Kenton area and would like to avoid repeating that as much as possible lmao. Biggest concerns are that, and leaving my car unattended for 16 hours as my shifts often run quite long. I usually start my shift between midnight and 4am.

Apt 1 I like the most, aesthetically and price wise. Itā€™s a street removed from both Lombard and Interstate, near the Freddieā€™s, which gives me some pause. Bottom floor so getting my bike inside would be easy peasy.

Apt 2 is second floor and has no secure bike storage, also would preclude my wheelchair using friend from visiting. Itā€™s on Rosa Parks, though, which I know has a cycleway. Offers a month free rent which sounds a little too good to be true.

Apt 3 is on Greeley, not too far from Adidas. My only experience with Greeley is the occasional detour, it always seems super packed with cars during the day. Also the most expensive unit.

The bike commute would be /- 5 minutes from each place, about half an hour total. Would take the Willamette Bikeway the whole way down.

Any big pros/cons to each area? Anything Iā€™m missing?
