I’ve been searching for a couple months. Seeking vehicle for >$14K which is no longer easy due to inflation. Visited and test drove cars at over a dozen used car dealerships. Brought several in to my mechanic for pre purchase inspections. Most have either driven poorly with noticeable issues (rattling or whirring sounds, or clunky drive which is likely transmission problems) or drove well enough for inspection then came back with glaring issues (mechanic is family at reputable shop, so not trying to take advantage of me for business).
The four I thought looked good enough to make an offer sold the day before or morning of my visit to test drive or make an offer. Looking at online reviews, local independent used car dealerships are being accused of serious lemon fraud but sales contracts stipulate the purchase to be in “as-is” condition that legally protects the dealer. Major chain dealerships have what should be affordable options but are both way above used dealer prices and Kelly blue book values - I mean nearly double the kbb value.
Haven’t yet found any attractive options from private sellers.
Where have you purchased used vehicles that you’d recommend to other locals? Thanks in advance for your input.
