Hello everyone today while I was driving to work down MLK, I was rear ended while waiting for a red light to turn green. Thankfully, I am not feeling injured in any capacity although my back at the start was a little sore it has since cleared up, and I am feeling no soreness or pain in any capacity. I called nonemergency to hopefully get a patrol unit to come out and file a traffic accident report, but was promptly told that everything is done online. When I tried to do that, the online form was asking me for questions that I did not know the answer to yet. For example, it was asking me what the total cost of the damage that was done to the car, which I have not yet been made aware of. Tomorrow morning since I am fully covered under Geico, my car will be towed and taken to be evaluated and I will only find out then whether the car is totaled or whether it will be able to be fixed. My question is, would it be in my best interest to go directly to a police department in order to file a report as the guilty party is not sure wether or not the car is ensured. The traffic incident report they have online is extremely difficult to navigate. The same question goes for the DMV portion of the report. Would it be better and easier for me to do that at an actual DMV location? Thanks for any help I would truly appreciate it. EDIT: Also I wanted to clarify that I have pictures of the guilty party’s Drivers License as well as passports. I took a picture of his plates and have his phone number.
