Does anyone here have any good articles or books on the way that the soul uses the body as an instrument/tool in ancient philosophy?
I would prefer English or French, but I’ll take German or Italian as well happily.
My own focus is on Plato, but I know this is an issue in Aristotle scholarship too. Basically any literature on this subject at all in ancient philosophy would be great.
In case it isn’t clear what I am talking about, consider the description of the body as the soul’s instrument in the Alcibiades; the way that the soul uses the body as a vehicle in the Timaeus or as a means of perception in the Theaetetus.
(This stuff might also be connected to the description of the body as the soul’s image in the Laws. Anything on that would be fascinating, too.)
Let me know if there any questions. I appreciate the help a lot!
