I want to argue in an essay that a black author pays great attention to detail in portraying (to the miniscule aspect) white interiors and property in a type of bid for mastery or ownership in her reality where she is deprived of partaking in these material assets.
It occured to me that photography might be another medium in addition to writing where this can occur.
For example, I do not own the Highlands of Scotland. But I can visit them and I choose a favourite spot, or take a picture of a sunset that only I see in that location, and I guess that's kind of what makes it special to me and makes me feel like I have it for me in some way?
Also another weird example - when food critics may write reviews despite the fact that they cannot cook, and use their expertise in writing and language to almost elevate their own status in terms of knowledge, above that of others.
Is there a concept that means in putting something into your own words of medium that you gain a level of control over the subject?
This may just sound daft, but please be kind!
