Where to start as a beginner in philosophy?
Post Body

Hello, I am a rising senior in high school interested in learning more about philosophy. I have had lots of conversations with close friends where we just talk about random stuff in life and they always end up telling me I should look into philosophy or explore other logic-based avenues. In AP Lang this year we read Freakonomics by Levitt Dubner and I really liked the premise of asking questions and examining situations. I didn't care as much about the actual data and stuff like that but I thought the conclusions they reached and the questions they asked to be very interesting.

I get a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment out of these discussions with friends, and am interested in getting started reading about different ideas and developing my own positions on things.

I know basically nothing about philosophy but am considering it as something to minor or even major in in college. I am currently planning to go premed with a focus in genetics/microbiology but for med school your major does not matter at all and humanities majors actually have an above-average acceptance rate to medical schools, so if I would like to start exploring philosophy to see if I like it before I apply to colleges in these coming months.

So, any beginner book recommendations? I read at a good level and enjoy reading, but don't like lengthy stuff that drags on and on. I live by a decently sized library so let me know any recommendations or things I should look into!
