The question of god came in basic college philosophy and got me thinking…
Post Body

If there was a god, would it actually be possible for it to be omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and omniscient all at the same time?

I believe this is a good question to ponder on and honestly feel it’s in good faith as you’ll see towards the end. It’s an idea that’s commonly tossed around without much thought given to it. It’s just something we say because we like the idea yet we don’t stop to think if this is actually a good thing to say or not. Let’s flesh this out. (Trigger Warning: ⚠️ mentions of assault) Unfortunately we live in a world where things happen that cause trauma and harm to some people. We also live in a world where people take advantage of others in order to try and get ahead. In this world terrible things like child sex trafficking actually happens. Let’s say there’s a force out there that is omniscient. They would know about this, who caused it, when they were going to do, and where they would be. According to U.S. Law, if this was a person they could be tried and found guilty if they knew it was going to happen, watched it happen, knows where they are and did not disclose any of this to law enforcement. That’s aiding and abetting. Let’s move on to omnipotence and omnibenevolence. If this force is all-powerful that would mean that this force is able to intervene and prevent this from happening, but that would require that this force be all-good or either decide that this child’s abuse to also be good. Does an Omni-Benevolent, Omni-potent, Omni-scient god not exist as all three at once. Does this god enjoy the idea of children in sex-trafficking? Or maybe this god doesn’t exist in the way we assumed it existed. Of course the existence of a god is highly debated in the first place. I’d be curious to know if there are any areas of philosophy that have already posed this dilemma and if there’s a name for it? Thanks
