Strauss and Socrates
Post Body

Hey everyone,

I've been getting some contradictory opinions on the relationships between Leo Strauss and Socrates. My former PhD advisor insisted that Strauss would have killed Socrates at his trial, and Straussians were often summed up as those people who thought Socrates was indeed corrupting the city.

I've also been watching a fair bit of Michael Millerman, who repeatedly speaks of the two as kindred spirits and explicitly says he thinks of Strauss as a modern Socrates, and implies that both were virtuous teachers of the youth.

Is there something I'm missing here?
