Trig Naming
Post Body
So last night I couldn't sleep. Like any nerd would do, I started thing about math, specifically trig. I didn't even attempt to understand the naming of sine or cosine, but tangent particularly intrigued me. After a bit of lethargic mental math, I realized that tan represents the slope of the line on the unit circle. That's pretty counterintuitive to the geometric definition of a tangent. Why is tangent named what it is?
