Can you help me comprehend this MatLab code?

I do get the gist of the first step of FFT, it sorts out the even-index and odd-index coefficients and then perform the half-size FFT of those sorted coefficients, and then we combine the results in this particular way:
y_j=y'_jĀ±(w_n)^(j)y''_j

But I need to someone to patiently explain this given MatLab code. I don't have much experience using MatLab. I only know some basic commands that relates to linear algebra, hence these codes are very cryptic to me.
