Hello, I will be traveling to South America (São Paulo for 24 hours, Buenos Aires for a week and Uruguay for a day trip) in November and I have a few questions regarding pickpocketing.
I understand these places are safe (if you know where to go and not to go) but the number one thing I have heard is that pickpockets are more advanced in these areas. Someone told me a story of being pickpocketed from a person on a motorbike.
I have traveled to 25 countries (mostly European and a few asian ones) and have never had a problem in terms of being pickpocketed (although I did see another gay British couple get their phone stolen in Paris because they were drunk). Was not all crumpets and tea on the car ride back for them.
I was considering in getting a crossbody bag but I also feel like this will make me look like a tourist. Should I stick to a hidden wallet? Is keeping my phone and wallet in my front pocket good enough?
Also this is off topic but how safe are Ubers instead of taking Taxis?
