Update: Thanks to all that took the time to offer input. It was appreciated. I did end up calling the next evening shortly after the kids started in again and it was clear it wasnāt a one time thing. Judging by how the FDA responded Iām guessing theyād gotten a few other complaints the night before. He said heād send someone up right away and to let him know if it continued. It stopped and no further issues. It was helpful to be reminded that there is more to bring a Karen than just complaining- itās the attitude. Iāll let them know on the post check out survey that there was some general issues with housekeeping. Despite those couple of things Iāll go back.
Iām in a Hilton chain suite type hotel for 2 weeks for business. My job booked the room. Itās a nice place. But Iāve had some problems and while they seem legit to me Iām afraid Iām complaining too much and donāt want to be a āKarenā. I also donāt want the staff to think Iām a problem customer and get blacklisted because itās likely Iāll be back here for other work trips. Iād appreciate perspective/feedback from those who work front desk. Check in evening I get to my room and upon opening the door the strong smell of old cigarettes hits me in the face. The whole place is supposed to be nonsmoking. My dad was a chain smoker til he died - it smells like his house did. Not just one or two cigarettes smoked in this room. Iām a non smoker and have always been sensitive to second hand smoke. I call, explain, am told they are full and canāt move me but sheāll send someone up. Nice young man comes with smoke eater room spray and Febreeze. He notices it immediately too, apologizes and says yeah they never should have sold the room. He does what he can but obviously the spray isnāt going to really help. I call back to front desk and Iām a little bit heated (but never rude) - I want to know what the plan is. Iām here 2 wks, I have a lot to unpack. I donāt want to have do this a bunch of times. Are they going to be able to move me the next day to same room for the stay?? Long story short, yes they can and do. Two managers reach out and apologized and new room is fine, all is good. They know me now at front desk.
I notice in new room that the shower tile grout is moldy. Pink and black mold. I have tile at home and recognize it means it hasnāt been cleaned properly in a while. Itās gross but I donāt want to complain as soon as I get into the new room. Next morning on my way out for the day I very nicely just ask at front desk if she could have housekeeping give my shower a re-do because there is mold in it. She says no problem. I come back that evening and my room has been cleaned but the shower looks the same. I canāt tell if they did anything at all to it. I get some clorox wipes and clean it myself. It comes off the grout easily so the wall clearly wasnāt even being wiped down.
Itās school vacation so lots of families are here. Lots of kids. Lots of running in the hall which bugs me but whatever kids run and they go to bed early no big deal. But last night there was a family above me that were running around for HOURS. Iām not sure if they were in the hall or their room but running jumping whatever- itās not only LOUD itās shaking the my walls and floor. And itās not occasionally, itās consistent. Like I was legit wondering how they were still going. Itās early evening Iām just eating dinner and watching a movie and figure they will knock off soon. They do - I suspect they went to the pool for a while. But then they start up again around 7:30. If I hadnāt already had issues I wouldāve called front desk sooner but I just donāt want to be complaining all the time. At 10 when I was gonna try to go to sleep the kids are still rumbling tumbling shaking the walls - I finally call. Im frustrated but pleasant to the front desk person because I know itās not her fault. She says she will send someone up. I donāt know if they did but the noise finally quit 20-30 minutes later. So maybe this family is checking out or maybe they are here all weekend. I donāt want to move again if they are. If they start up again tonight with the gymnastics am I being unreasonable to ask the hotel to make them stop? Are they already thinking Iām a pain in the ass Karen?? Help!
