I want to know if I’m being too picky about the American cities I’d live in, or if my pickiness is reasonable. I’d only live in San Francisco, LA, or NYC for the foreeeable future (basically west coast or NYC). For context, I live in NYC currently (for 2 years), before that lived in San Francisco for 6 years, and grew up in a small town in Texas. My parents think that my mindset is ridiculous and that I should open my mind to live in any american city, small or big. I try to explain to them that I prefer living in diverse, queer-friendly, metropolitan areas that are open minded and culturally forward. This question has sprung up because i’m having trouble finding jobs in my field (mechanical engineering) in nyc, so i’m trying to decide where i’d like to apply. I know that i could physically have the ability to live in any city, but i feel like SF/LA/NYC are usually at the heartbeat of american culture, opportunities, and advancements. For context, i’m mid 20’s, gay, active performing drag queen, and black/asian.
